The Academic Track is one of four tracks available in the Philippine’s K-12 Basic Education Curriculum’s Senior High School program. It is designed for students who desire to continue their studies after graduating from high school. There are four Academic Track strands, namely Accountancy Business and Management (ABM), General Academic Strand (GAS), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strands.
Accountancy Business and Management
The Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand would include the fundamentals of financial management, business management, corporate operations, and accounting. ABM can also lead to management and accounting positions, such as sales manager, human resources, marketing director, project officer, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and many others.
General Academic Strand
While the other strands are focused on specific careers, the General Academic Strand is ideal for students who aren’t sure which path they want to take. This program allows you to select electives from a variety of academic strands.
Humanities and Social Science Strand
The HUMMS strand is for individuals who are curious about what is on the other side of the fence. In other words, you are prepared to face the world and speak with a large number of people. This is for anyone thinking about majoring in journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, or other social science-related fields in college.
This strand could lead to a career as a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter in the future. This strand is all about honing your communication abilities. Oh! There’s also the option of becoming a priest!
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
When implemented in the actual world, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are intertwined disciplines. The focus on advanced concepts and themes distinguishes the STEM curriculum from the other strands and tracks.
You can train to be a pilot, an architect, an astrophysicist, a biologist, a chemist, an engineer, a dentist, a nutritionist, a nurse, a doctor, and many more professions by following the track. This track is recommended for those who are also interested in Marine Engineering.
